FTP/FTPS uploads batches of photos and clips to your own server, NAS or cloud bucket. It is the mode of choice for monitoring projects, research stations and self-hosted platforms that need full data ownership.
The camera initiates an FTP or FTPS (TLS) session to your host and writes files to a configured path — on trigger or on a schedule. FTPS encrypts the transfer so credentials and images are not exposed in transit.
Because files go straight to your storage, you control retention, backup and analysis. Bulk and scheduled transfers are efficient, but count on steady bandwidth at the camera end for large clips.
| Transport | FTP / FTPS (TLS) |
|---|---|
| Data ownership | Your own server / NAS |
| Third-party cloud | None |
| Transfer mode | On-trigger / scheduled batch |
| Platform fee | None |
| Best for | Research / security / custom platforms |
Choose FTP when the data must stay on your own infrastructure — research, security monitoring and custom platforms all fit. You get complete control and no per-image fees.
If you would rather not run storage, the Cloud API gives you managed ingestion with webhooks. For simple phone or email alerts, MMS or SMTP are lighter.
